An open source Linux client for Google Drive

Grive. Yes that’s what it’s called. It is an open source implementation of Google Drive client for GNU/Linux. Currently as of version 0.2.0, grive can do two-side synchronization between the Google Drive and local directory. It can download and upload changed files. New directories in Google Drive and local directory will also be downloaded/uploaded.

You can find the directories and details on gitHub here.

Google - A drive in the clouds

Yes. They killed it. But now they are ready to roll. 6 years after they flirted with the idea for the first time.

As the battle for cloud storage heats up, Google is all set to jump into the battle ring.

I have always been amazed at why or how companies like Google or Facebook have never got into this space? Heck they have the technology. Imagine the millions of emails on Gmail or the gazzilion pictures that are uploaded on Facebook everyday. They surely have the technology to create storage on cloud.

But they have never pursued it.

If all the tech Junta are to be believed, then GDrive will debut publicly in April. At 1 GB space for free and those millions of gmail owners who can now synchronize their Google Docs with GDrive, it looks like a win win situation. Only DropBox gives 2 GB space for free. But they don’t have an install base.

GDrive…i like the name.
